Artist: Sir Doug & The Texas Tornados Title: Texas Rock For Country Rollers Year Of Release: 1976 Label: Edsel Records Genre: Rock, Blues-Rock, Country Quality: FLAC (tracks+. In terms of presentation, attitude, and musical direction, this is pretty much a Sir Douglas Quintet-type affair, is definitely not a record by what would become the Texas Tornados, and includes at least three genuine classics such as the beautiful "Give Back the Key to My Heart," later to be redone by the band Uncle Tupelo. Good playing and better vibes abound but there is the feeling that somebody was asleep at the wheel, in that some of the best tracks simply fade out right in the middle of an important chorus.

Doug and Augie did a great album for the Teardrop label in the 70's called "The Westside Rolls Again" which I'm trying to get but it's like trying to find hen's teeth. Anyway, "Texas Rock For Country Rollers" is well worth hunting out as it contains quite a few classic songs and is essential for any good Doug Sahm collection. 5 people found this helpful. This album has some great cuts on it: the classic "Cowboy Peyton Place," "Floataway," and the Gene Thomas medley all are wonderful Texas rock with a little pedal steel thrown in for good measure. I don't know who mixed the album, but on a couple cuts it fades out while Doug is in the middle of the chorus! This is especially troubling on the great "Give Back the Key to my Heart. A better version of that is found on SDQ '98 or Get a Life (same album - different names) because it lets Doug finish!

Little did anyone know how much confusion this might eventually create when years later Sahm formed a new band called the Texas Tornados with a nucleus of himself and several other musical legends from that state, only one of whom appears on this album, other than Sahm himself  . 3. Texas Rock For Country Rollers is the third album by American country-music singer Doug Sahm. Sahm composed for the album seven original songs, while covers constituted the rest of the album. It was released by ABC-Dot in 1976. The album was recorded at SugarHill Recording Studios, in Houston, Texas. The session was produced by Huey P. Meaux and engineered by Mickey Moody. Meaux financed the costs with the success of his Freddy Fender recordings
