Ever since winning first prize at the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw in 1960, Italian pianist Maurizio Pollini has been considered one of the world's finest Chopin interpreters. Along with Chopin's two piano concertos, Pollini has recorded many other compositions by the Romantic composer for Deutsche Grammophon . Complete Etudes and Préludes, Scherzi, Polonaises, Sonatas No. 1 & 2. This trailer features Pollini's album with all Nocturnes by Frédéric Chopin which were published during his lifetime.

It is particularly fitting that Pollini has chosen an ‘all Chopin’ recital as it was back in 1960 that he won the first prize at the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw. The same year he appeared at La Scala, Milan playing Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1 conducted by Sergiu Celibidache. In fact, to avoid being typecast as a Chopin-only specialist he ceased performing the music of the great Polish composer for a time. Chopin completed his Ballade N. in F major, O. 8 in Majorca in 1839 with a dedication to Robert Schumann. The F major Ballade is interpreted by Pollini with a broad tonal.

The International Chopin Piano Competition (Polish: Międzynarodowy Konkurs Pianistyczny im. Fryderyka Chopina), often referred to as the Chopin Competition, is a piano competition held in Warsaw, Poland. It was initiated in 1927 and has been held every five years since 1955. It is one of the few competitions devoted entirely to the works of a single composer, in this case, Frédéric Chopin.
