Upper Austria is a beautiful province, with museums, bike routes, great hotels and castles. Take a look at our information and tips for activities and attractions in Upper Austria. Visit Linz in Summer 2019. Linz is a little bit different. This City of Smart Tourism has historic beauty aplenty: Its expansive main square – located right by the Danube – and its quaint Old Town have a relaxed and authentic feel. But Linz is also defined by a constant desire for change and innovation.
The most popular form of modern Austrian folk music is Viennese Schrammelmusik, which is played with an accordion and a double-necked guitar. Modern performers include Roland Neuwirth, Karl Hodina, and Edi Reiser. This genre of punk rock, whose name may be shortened to alpunk originated in the Alpine regions of Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. Alpunk fuses the chaotic, energetic rhythms of punk music with the accordion-based folk music that the region is famous for.
Traditional celebrations and festivals are usually associated with religious ceremonies, things you will find mentioned in my article on the traditions and customs of Austria. Various folk customs and traditions are held in the Salzkammergut - see my article on the Perchten of Austria for details.
