Bach - Masaaki Suzuki, Bach Collegium Japan - Complete Cantatas: Celebrating The Cycle 1995-2013 mp3 flac

Since founding Bach Collegium Japan in 1990, Masaaki Suzuki has established himself as a leading authority on the works of Bach. He has remained their Music Director ever since, taking them regularly to major venues and festivals in Europe and the USA and building up an outstanding reputation for the expressive refinement and truth of his performances. Suzuki’s impressive discography on the BIS label, featuring Bach’s complete works for harpsichord and his interpretations of Bach’s major choral works and sacred cantatas with Bach Collegium Japan (of which he has already completed over fifty volumes of a project to record the complete series) have brought him many critical plaudits – the Times has written: it would take an iron. bar not to be moved by his crispness, sobriety and spiritual vigour.

Bach from all the other recordings of the three works included here? Is it the quality of the soloists? Yes. The four western soloists are excellent, particularly heartfelt soprano Carolyn Sampson in "Wie Schon Leuchtet der Morgenstern" and muscular bass Peter Kooij in "Erhalt uns, Herr, bei deinem Wort. Is it the quality of the chorus? Yes.

With this release, the 55th, Japanese conductor Masaaki Suzuki and his Bach Collegium Japan reach the end of their magisterial complete cycle of Bach's cantatas, begun in 1995. The cycle ends neither with a bang nor with a whimper, although you do get a touching note from Suzuki, wishing that someone would rediscover cantatas so that he could go on, and a handy index to the entire series.
