About Rain Tree Crow. From 1974 until 1982, David Sylvian, Steve Jansen, Mick Karn and Richard Barbieri came to prominence as members of the band Japan, releasing a number of acclaimed albums and singles and becoming one of the most influential acts of the decade, but personal differences between the members (or more between Sylvian and the others) led the band to split, and the four musicians. each went their separate ways. However, in 1991, the four former Japan members reunited, creating one album, Rain Tree Crow, showcasing elements of what each different member had been up to in the last. Rain Tree Crow is the result of a collaboration between former Japan members David Sylvian and Mick Karn. Sylvian and Karn teamed with keyboardist Richard Barbieri and Steve Jansen, adding guitarists Phil Palmer and Bill Nelson for their self-titled debut. Like a mellower, new age-oriented version of Japan, Rain Tree Crow explores stark soundscapes that sound alternately beautiful and desolate. Although it is a bit too challenging to provide a good introduction to Sylvian and Karn's music, the album remains fascinating for their fans.

Rain Tree Crow is a one-shot album, but excellent to say the least. What was supposed to be a reunion between the members of Japan, turned into a supergroup of the "Who's Who" in '90s Progressive Rock. Members are Mick Karn, Richard Barbieri (Porcupine Tree), Steve Jansen, David Sylvian, Michael Brook, and Bill Nelson. The members of Japan realized they were performing entirely different material from what they were previously covering in the 80s; thus, the name Rain Tree Crow prevails

I've bought this one in several issues, including the extremely nice japanese exclusive box-set with extra postcards. That was the worst in sounduality as usual. Being an audiophile-enthusiast, I only kept the standard UK CD-version. The remaster-serie was even much worse. The top-end precision has totally disappeared (as usual with the remaster releases). AVOID the remasters! Those are incredibly badly manufactured products (as usual). The very uninteresting bonus track "I drink to forget" is no consolation for the distorted soundquality. I've NEVER came across with a single contra-example among any remastered edition vs "originals". Never. The bonus track appears on the R.T.C. only single "Blackwater" anyway.
