Jonesy - No Alternative mp3 flac

No Alternative was Jonesy's debut album, and its title track best summed up their aspirations of fusing improvisational jazz to prog rock with barely a thought to commercial consequences. A muscular piece with a tough political message, it spills back and forth between prog and jazz over a stop-start rhythm. Equally socially conscious is "Pollution," an epic track that showcased the band at its best. It begins with quiet, moody organ and Mellotron pooling around the heavy lyrics, then builds in intensity until suddenly the band breaks into bright, racing prog rock.

Obviously, the shadow of King Crimson looms heavily over the Mellotron-laced debut by Jonesy. Jonesy’s first album has been referred to as reminiscent of early King Crimson, something band leader John Evans-Jones has readily acknowledged. Having ‘Islands’ engineer Andy Hendrikson fill the same role on this record probably didn’t hurt either. But the first track sounds more like early Kansas to me, only with mellotron replacing Steinhardt’s violin and Jones’ lead guitar being a bit harsher than anything I ever heard out of Livgren
