Cow-punk, in fact, might be too mild a word for what the band play on their debut album. It's often hardcore punk with a dash of galloping country, though almost always with a gonzoid energy of the sort that makes their covers of the "Hee Haw" theme and Elvis Presley 's "Burnin' Love" almost unrecognizable if you aren't paying attention.

The Hickoids had the idea to infuse country into their punk. The band had the legendary Wade Driver (Corduroy, 50 Million) amidst their ranks. Their track, "Animal Husbandry" is awesome. Scratch Acid should need no introduction. This is the dud of the album, but not because it's bad per se, it just seems that this wasn't really a band so much as a group of folks having a laugh at punk. matako mazuri was jeff smith's (hickoids singer) label - he put out the "bands on the block" comp, woodshock '85 comp, hickoids "we're in it for the corn" lp, and 7"s by loco gringos, texas instruments, plastic patrick and a few others i am probably forgetting. growing up in san antonio these records were all a big influence on us. jeff.

The Hickoids released their debut record We’re In It For The Corn (the first-ever album project of Austin production maven Stuart Sullivan), which reached the worldwide underground with licensing deals for record companies in England and Germany. The Hickoids’ second effort, an EP entitled Hard Corn, featured the band’s snotty take on the Eagles hit Take It Easy. Guitarist Jukebox would suddenly leave the band mid-tour following the EP’s release, leaving rhythm guitar player Davy Jones to take over as principle six-stringer
