You Don't Have to be Jewish is a 1965 comedy album written by Bob Booker and George Foster, the team behind the 1962 comedy album The First Family. The album features Lou Jacobi, Betty Walker, Jack Gilford, Joe Silver, Jackie Kannon, Bob McFadden, Frank Gallop, and Arlene Golonka, in a variety of roles, mostly Jewish, performing a mixture of jokes and comedy sketches.
This is repeated several times as he cajoles her by telling her he's bought her a present, something she's been wanting, etc. until he finally tell her which expensive gift he's brought her, and she replies, "I'm hiiiiiiding. in de front clooooooset!" I googled that phrase, and up popped this double CD-I absolutely couldn't believe it! I played the familiar skits over the phone for my sisters, and I enjoy listening to the whole CD while I'm fixing dinner . But as the cliche goes, you don't have to be Jewish to enjoy this trip back to the 1960's. One person found this helpful.
By Booker and Foster's admission, many of the gags on these albums were quite old long before these recordings were made, and the passage of time hasn't buffed off any of the tarnish; chances are good you'll know the punch lines to these jokes before the cast gets around to reciting them. At the same time, some of the more original routines on these albums have dated even worse, in particular the James Bond parody on You Don't Have to Be Jewish and the neo-Allan Sherman take-offs on When You're in Love.
