The Dukes Of Stratosphear - Psonic Psunspot mp3 flac
Complete your The Dukes Of Stratosphear collection. The book has extensive notes from Andy, Colin with Gregsy (as the other two affectionately call guitarist Dave Gregory) giving a break down on the gear used to record the album. This is essential because it sounds better than the 2001 release with some nice EQ choices, the bonus tracks and the deluxe book.
Psonic Psunspot is the second album by English rock band the Dukes of Stratosphear, a side project of XTC, released in 1987. Also counted as XTC's tenth studio album, it is a follow-up to 25 O'Clock (1985).
25 O'Clock may have only been six tracks, but they were densely packed, containing enough studio tricks and allusions for a triple album.
Psonic Psunspot was not intended to be the final Dukes of Stratosphear album – in fact, the band prepared quite a few wild ideas for the band in years to come, including a film directed by Godley & Creme for 25 O'Clock and a prequel-sort of album which would be a pastiche of earlier 60s pop songs. However, despite their success with these albums, Virgin refused to finance any of their offshoot plans. The project effectively ended here, despite several songs surfacing periodically over the next 25 years. Psonic Psunspot Q&A.
The Dukes of Stratosphear released 'Psonic Psunspot,' their first – and last – full-length album, in August 1987. The Dukes of Stratosphear were more than an endlessly fun XTC offshoot band. Their guileless psychedelic asides were a critical bridge between the difficult sessions for 1986's Skylarking and XTC's sun-filled triumph on 1989's Oranges and Lemons. It's within the realms of possibility that XTC would not have survived beyond the '80s without the cathartic effect this fun side-project engendered," David Gregory later said. That so many others found it amusing and entertaining simply adds to the joy we derived from its creation
Psonic Psunspot is a studio album from XTC which was released under the pseudonym The Dukes of Stratosphear. The album, like the previous 25 O'Clock, is inspired by the 1960s psychedelia. Released in 1987, it showcases a variety of songs meant to evoke specific groups of that period (for instance, the Hollies on "Vanishing Girl", the Byrds on "You're My Drug" and the Beach Boys on "Pale and Precious").
The Dukes of Stratosphear. Ape House Ltd. Virgin., 1987/2009. Partridge's 80s demos are often essential; they mark the final resting place of some of the best material of his career. But these cuts aren't examples. Nicely Nicely Jane" is barely a sketch of a song about a murderous girl, and "Susan Revolving" has a solid melody but falls in the "too early to tell" category. The discs also include the demos for most of the album tracks, and some of them are a surprise, like Partridge's ramshackle jam through "Bike Ride to the Moon".
