Gyða’s new album, Evolution, features her original compositions and was co-produced by Alex Somers. Other collaborators were Shahzad Ismaily, Albert Finnbogason, Aaron Roche, Julian Sartorius and Úlfur Hansson. The recordings took place in New York and . in two 10 days sessions with a day off in the middle. Strings swirl, electronics hums gently, voices enter – and then exit – gracefully. This is a sturdy yet elegant album – delicate and powerful at the same time. Gyða’s distinctive vocals remain in the foreground, her cello always inventive and highly personal, underlining a dignified craftsmanship. As Gyða states herself: Evolution was an effortless birth. So much so that I thought - is this allowed! I have always given value to blood, sweat and tears so this was a new process for me.
The label also produced most of the best Brazilian music of the mid-'60s, that fertile time just after the bossa craze had kicked off worldwide and before psychedelia and fascism were about to force the unlikely birth of tropicalia. This two-disc reissue of all things Elenco is a treasure for fans of Brazilian music; for the record, Bossa Jazz has a companion volume called Brazil Bossa Beat!, but the crossover between jazz and beat is liberal.
Life Between the Exit Signs is a jazz album by pianist Keith Jarrett. It was recorded on May 4, 1967 at Atlantic Recording Studios, in New York City and released on April 1, 1968, under the record label Vortex, a subsidiary label of Atlantic Records. It features Jarrett, bassist Charlie Haden and drummer Paul Motian.
Previously album structure had been an afterthought and the result was very formulaic, resulting in many albums leading with the second and/or third single, followed by a ballad, and side two would lead with the first single, then there would be a series of cover songs. Dylan's album broke this formula by turning the album format into an art form in itself. Of the album, George Harrison said, "We just played it, just wore it out". While many white musicians were heading backwards, African-Americans based in the New Orleans continued to develop the sound of R&B . The US meanwhile had given birth to the anti-Beatles in The Velvet Underground. Perhaps the very first art-band, Lou Reed, John Cale, Sterling Morrison et al produced music that drew influence from modernist composers (Cornelius Cardew), literature (Venus in Furs), poetry and pop music.
As the last 6 pieces to complete the puzzle that is the De-Evolution series materialise – a whole emerges from the dark depths. The form that has slowly been de-evolving is now ready to be birthed from the chaotic primordial ooze in its entirety. Beware higher life forms. Look out so called ‘advanced creatures’. Rejoice amoeba, prions and plankton apes. De-Evolution is back to hit you with a cudgel and soothe you with crude howls. This album contains P., P. I and P. II of The Upbeats – De-Evolution. Evolution is the seventh studio album by American recording artist Anastacia. The album was released on September 15, 2017 through Four Eyez Productions, Polydor Records and Universal Music Group. This marks Anastacia's first album of original material in three years since Resurrection (2014). The album has been preceded by the release of one single-"Caught in the Middle".
Other critics hailed the album's release, and the group earned such accolades as an invitation to perform at the Director's Guild Lifetime Achievement Award Ceremony for Stanley Kubrick in 1999. Motion was also voted album of the year by listeners of Gilles Peterson's Radio One program. Bass also sang on the album track "Evolution. The emotional catharsis stemming from singing a song about her deceased ex-husband caused Bass to cry. "Afterward, she said it was the first time she had let herself really grieve for him," Swinscoe told Smith. The Cinematic Orchestra released the album Ma Fleur on May 7, 2007. Several songs feature Patrick Watson, Fontella Bass, or Lou Rhodes on vocals, with Rhodes and Watson sharing vocals on one song.
