Charles Mingus - Mingus At Antibes mp3 flac

referencing Mingus At Antibes, 2xLP, Album, RE, ATL 60 146. Good session by Mingus and solid lineup at Antibes Jazz Festival 1960. Most of the material is very fresh and sounds very natural - sound quality is good, but not great (drums sound distant, etc), but Mingus sounds quite good and always very energetic and inspired on the different tracks. Bud Powell plays piano as special guest on C1. My favourite side is side D, it has a version of Better Git It In Your Soul which sounds very real on this live version. Reply Notify me Helpful.

Mingus at Antibes was originally issued by BYG Records under the title Charles Mingus Live With Eric Dolphy in Japan in 1974. It was recorded at a live 1960 performance at the Jazz à Juan festival at Juan-les-Pins by jazz bassist and composer Charles Mingus; and was re-released by Atlantic Records in more complete form as a double album with the title Mingus In Antibes in the United States in 1976.

During 1960, bassist Charles Mingus led one of his finest bands, a pianoless quartet with Eric Dolphy (on alto, flute, and bass clarinet), trumpeter Ted Curson, and drummer Dannie Richmond. For this live concert, the band is augmented by the great tenor Booker Ervin for some stirring music. All of the music is memorable: "Wednesday Night Prayer Meeting," "Prayer for Passive Resistance," "What Love," "Folk Forms No. 1," and "Better Get Hit in Yo' Soul.

Mingus at Antibes was originally a double album recorded at a live 1960 performance at the Jazz à Juan festival at Juan-les-Pins by jazz bassist and composer Charles Mingus; it was released in 1976. The album captures a performance at Jazz à Juan, and features some of Mingus's regular musicians in a generally piano-less quintet, though the band is joined by Bud Powell on "I'll Remember April", and Mingus himself plays some piano on "Wednesday Night Prayer Meeting" and "Better Git Hit in Your Soul".
