Shades Of Blue (Madlib Invades Blue Note) ‎(2xLP, Album, RP). Blue Note. Pretty good record but this pressing is really bad. Skips on side 2 frequently and noticeably wobbles the tonearm back and forth.

Super-producer Madlib released Shades of Blue June 24, 2003. Shades is Madlib’s way of summarizing the massive catalog that composes Blue Note Records. As his way of paying homage to the genre, Madlib released this small summary of Blue Note record label music on the actual Blue Note label. Shades of Blue Q&A. Executive Producers Peanut Butter Wolf & Eli Wolf. Featuring Joe McDuphrey Experience, .

The result, Shades of Blue, is really more of a Yesterdays New Quintet album, but Madlib's name is far more recognizable then his alter ego and faux-supergroup, YNQ. So, Shades of Blue features Madlib interpreting and remixing Blue Note classics such as Wayne Shorter's "Footprints" and Gene Harris' "The Look of Slim" (remixed here as "Slim's Return")

Shades Of Blue is a project that turns over the legacy of the esteemed Blue Note jazz label to one of hip-hop's most unique artists, Madlib. He is considered to be one of hip-hop's most inventive visionaries and connects it's productions through smart lyrics and poetics. Madlib was afforded the opportunity to mine the crates of Blue Note. On Shades of Blue, he delivers remixes and brand spanking new interpretations of Blue Note classics

just checking my copy of this item and all the muck photographed on the back of the sleeve is identical. i have the copy pictured. how random
deadly claw
You don't have the copy pictured. It's part of the album art design. It's fake ringwear/water damage, to emulate an old record.

My copy of this OG has additional numbers in the runouts: S-63682, S-63683, S-63684, S-63685. Indicating pressing is from Rainbo. It is an excellent sounding pressing despite. Would be curious what's printed in the currently available repress.

Perfect album for Hip Hop heads who are willing to give Jazz a chance. Many still have not made the connection, but for those who have this album is a perfect representation of how the two genres intertwine. Madlib shows how its done when it comes to flipping some jazz. My personal favorite is Donald Byrd's Distant Land and Madlib does it justice. THis one is a classic and more people need to hears it even 1 years later.

I have this specific record and it's exactly as the image you shared describes. Not a gatefold, just a sleeve roomy enough to hold both LPs without squishing them. In fact, I was looking at this just last night as I finally tore the plastic off of it. Hope this helps. I also did a little Googling and cannot find any evidence of a gatefold release of this. If you find one, please submit it. Hope this helps.PS: This record is AMAZING! :-)

PLEASE HELP (if you own this issue): it appears to me that there might be a gatefold issue of this based on this image http://imgur.com/9ajh1gH can anyone who owns this issue confirm or deny? Thanks.
Thordira
Looks like it might be a graphic design mockup used in which case Gatefold does not exist.

An excellent set of Hip Hop reworks of old, good Jazz from Blue Note Records. It sometimes contains some full jazz covers (The most clear example would be "Footprints") to fully Hip Hop remixes ("Please Set Me At Ease", Distand Land"); but it all comes down smoothly. You must hear this!
