No-Man ‎– Flowermouth. Label: One Little Indian ‎– TPLP67CD. Produced, recorded and mixed at No-Man's Land sep-dec 1993. Additional recording at The Beat Factory.

Flowermouth is the second studio album by British duo No-Man, released in 1994 on the One Little Indian Records label, and subsequently reissued on September, 1999 by 3rd. Stone Ltd, and in a deluxe format by Snapper Music in February 2005. Flowermouth was considered the band's most ambitious album to date, and remains a fan favourite.

As I listen to No-Man's Flowermouth again, I can't help sharing an opinion on the band. I'm not a big Porcupine Tree fan. I feel PT is a bit monotonous and brings few surprises to my ear. I'm a huge King Crimson fan and am always looking for something that might be new to think about. The No-Man vocal offering is similar to David Sylvian (of which Robert Fripp and others from KC briefly collaborated with in 1993). Fortunately, the "guitars from hell" sound by Fripp accompanied by other guest work by Mel Collins and Lisa Gerard provide a great juxtaposition to the.

Flowermouth is No-Man's 2nd full album and what a beauty it is. It is full of great, atmospheric sounds, sometimes ambient in a few short passages, sometimes featuring drum loops you can dance to, other times offering an atmospheric jazz/rock fusion and other times discordant sounds. Each track has it's own great characteristics and surprises, the one constant being Bowness' airy vocals which work in every scenario presented here.

Things were better honed for No-Man on Flowermouth, released a year after the band's debut. Minus Ben Coleman (although you'd never guess because he appears on seven of nine tracks), Tim Bowness and Steven Wilson were aided by Robert Fripp, Ian Carr, Steve Jansen, and Richard Barbieri (who recorded the excellent set Flame with Bowness in the same year).
