Frank Zappa Plays the Music of Frank Zappa: A Memorial Tribute is a posthumous album by Frank Zappa. According to the liner notes, Frank's son Dweezil talked with his father shortly before Frank's death about the songs Frank had written that he would consider to be his "signature" tunes. These were "Zoot Allures", "Black Napkins" and "Watermelon in Easter Hay"

Band from Utopia A Tribute to the Music of Frank Zappa movie This appropriately offbeat tribute to Frank Zappa, filmed live in Stuttgart, includes performances from Ike Willis, Bobby Martin, Tommy Mars, and Jay Dittamo playing enduringly popular hits like "Bamboozled by Love," "Be-Bop Tango," and "Sofa. This is the only Arthur Barrow video. Band from Utopia: A Tribute to the Music of Frank Zappa.

Zappa's mirthless humour is in evidence here: architecturally breathtaking music and musicianship is sabotaged by titles like "The Illinois Enima (sic) Bandit", while the wistfully gorgeous backdrop of "Outside Now" is disfigured by an embittered, satirical ess lyric. This project does work, however, not least because of the cheerful tone set by vocalist/guitarist Ike Willis, who invests in the music humane qualities lacking in Zappa

This tribute to the music of Frank Zappa was recorded live at Jazzopen, Stuttgart, July, 1994. The band is comprised of Ike Willis, Bruce Fowler, Bobby Martin, Tommy Mars, Tom Fowler, Arthur Barrow, Ed Mann, Jay Dittamo, and Chad Wackerman. And for those who don't know squat about Zappa's music, this isn't the best place to start. The band is lead by Ike Willis, followed by familiar faces from past Zappa bands encompassing the 70s and 80s with no members from the Mothers of Invention participating. The performance is mearly adequate and at sometimes sloppy, but I'm from the school of any Zappa is good Zappa. 6 people found this helpful.
