Original Masters – The Singles. Posted by Thang Nguyen in DG, DG Original Masters. Beethoven, Donizetti, Dussek, Falla, Haydn, Hugo Wolf, Kreisler, Liebermann, Mauro Giuliani, Morton Gould, Mozart, Mussorgsky, Richard Strauss, Stravinsky, Tartini, Various Artists. For the current reissue, DG wisely decided to focus on the more unusual items in its back catalogue. Thus, we have Shura Cherkassky playing Morton Gould’s Boogie Woogie Etude, Andor Foldes playing Virgil Thomson’s Ragtime Bass, Ferenc Fricsay conducting two orchestral works by Rolf Liebermann – Furioso and the Suite on Swiss Folksongs, and bass Kim Borg singing two versions (Beethoven’s and Mussorgsky’s) of the Song of the Flea from Goethe’s Faust.

A double disc of music recorded between 1952 and 1970, The Christmas Album aims to evoke an old-fashioned, German-style celebration of the holiday. This collection provides a cozy feeling with its medleys of charming carols and festive splendor in its grand choruses and jubilant organ music. Beyond the points of holiday mood or national flavor, the listener may be even more intrigued by the historical aspects of these recordings, which have languished in Deutsche Grammophon's vault for many decades. While the tracks are either AAD or ADD, the sound.

Singles is the original soundtrack album to the film Singles, primarily focused on the ascendant Seattle grunge scene of the early 1990s. It also features contributions from Minneapolis's Paul Westerberg (his first solo material after the breakup of The Replacements), Chicago's The Smashing Pumpkins, and past Seattle rockers Jimi Hendrix and The Lovemongers (Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart). It was released on June 30, 1992. The album has been certified two times platinum by the RIAA in the United States.
