Content: Hearts Of Black Science is a name that rings a bell, and it’s already been quite a long time ago that I’ve known of this band. The album The Star In The Lake released in 2009 by Wonderland Records probably remains their main album before this ‘resurrection’ at Progress Production with the new full length Signal. I can’t get away from the idea that this duo probably is one of the best kept secrets from the Swedish electro-pop scene. The sound is covering many influences, but ‘pop’ music remains the main basis to their composition

Even though "The Star in the Lake" is from October 2009, it's pretty hard to find a copy in online music stores. I bought a couple of CDs directly from Sebastian at Wonderland Records, which was easy. It seems like for writers, musicians, directors et al, the "sophomore jinx" is real. Extra effort and pressure sometimes stifles the free flow of creativity. Hearts of Black Science hit a home run with "The Ghost You Left Behind", and they tried to replicate that with "The Star in the Lake". I'm happy to report that they've largely succeeded, it's almost as good as their debut. Since I have played it at least 20 times in less than 2 weeks, I guess I like it. Starting with opening title track the sound is huge and enveloping - play loud! The third track "Gold & Dust" comes closest to magnificence of "Silver". Every sound, Depeche-like synths, booming bass, pounding drums, serrated soaring guitar and Daniel Anghede's multi tracked earnest vocals are brilliant. "Transmission" is another standout track, albeit at a slower tempo. The lyrics are just as dark this time which once again in nice counterpoint to the poppiness of the music. Overall, this album is more driving and uptempo. I like Hearts of Black Science when they're bit slower and moodier but this CD is still as highly recommended as the first one.
