Gigiladede Selling a VG++ copy, hit me up if interested bla Hey man, how much you selling for?Cheers,Jude
Sounds amazing! Might be a boot but the quality is superb.
January- this track is history and will never die. KDJ showing off his soulful skills with this track. Art right there !
i have one to sell, hit me up if you´re interested.
Yellow Judge
Do you still have this for sale? Let me know by PM
Legend started from here. KDJ can turn any cliche dance floor classics into new boogie. 20 years on, this is still fresh.
as us monkeys have a masterbatory tendency to hang titles and play rating games, I will anoint 'January' as the quintessential deep house cut of all time. tuff!
Even with such a hefty back-catalogue of classic Detroit tunes, this E.P. by KDJ may well be my favourite! Simply brilliant.
what system do you use? must have a decent amp/ preamp mixer & speakers at least I have a Urei 1620LE & use ADAM A5x powered monitors through a balanced signal. Simple but effective..... makes anything sounds good
"January" samples the intro chords of "Stefano Pulga - Superflight" (1979).
@ Obsidian: yes, you're right. Lonnie Liston Smith is spot-on!
Very similar, but is actually "Summer Nights" by Lonnie Liston Smith.
Hypnotic sublime analog machine funk. Winter Breeze/January. Moody, & F**ing brilliant, including those George Benson samples. Poor sound quality? Badly put together? Get a life! The whole 12" is of absurd soulful darkness, & OBVIOUSLY discordant/loose. Its called art! Top 3 Kenny releases this is in, no messing.
One of my favorite KDJ records, all tracks are fun for me and the dancefloor
this is a poor record, not one track i would give above 3/10 to. every cut is based around sampling obvious disco/soul like george benson "give me the night" (i can hear geraldine hunt in there) but its all completely out of tune and painfully discordant/dense - like an out of key blend in a dj mix. it's although the producer has randomly grabbed a pile of records then sampled them and shoe horned them together with no musicality or attempt to find samples in the same key. i totally understand why its rare, as its not very good and i'm sure it didn't sell very well as a new release. if it wasn't moody man (who has gone on to make some better music) then no one would remember this. it does make me wonder about people's taste when you read the reviews here. i guess rarity and supposedly cool producer blind people of maybe they like really badly put together disco samples?
The nice thing about music is that we all have our tastes and preferences. Not everyone likes HOUSE.The house genre was born of non-stop mixes of disco, funk and soul records sampled, chopped and/or extended by DJs who did so using vinyl, on turntables, and who wrote the bpm (and very rarely, the key) on a piece of tape lovingly affixed to the jacket. The DJs mixed loosely by riding the pitch slider to pull in those disco loops and old imperfectly sequenced (or live) productions, it was nearly impossible to "mix in key" as the lack of a "pitch lock" made it all but impossible as you would have to match the key AND tempo to maintain the key and avoid discord. It was exactly this discord and resultant post mix resolution that gives house mixes their amazing sound and energy. This record IS house. It uses samples sourced as a real DJ would in the beginning and then looped on a sequencer. Remember (or maybe you don't) that DAWs didn't have the processing power and unlimited tracks of modern DAWs when this record was made. It is imperfectly sequenced meaning you have to either "warp" it in a DAW or you have to *GASP* ride the pitch slider to mix it "seamlessly" It is raw and has discord but uses repetition to provide resolution. The composition is flawless as each one takes you on a complete musical journey. It is also VERY appreciated by true HOUSE music fans. I played Yesterdays and Winter Breeze at different times at an underground event a couple of years ago and the crowd loved them! You have the right to buy all of the modern DAW produced flawless tracks you like. Go ahead and scan them with "Mixed In Key" and then use "Pitch Lock" and "Sync" in your Traktor software so that all of your mixes sound perfect and sanitized. You're not wrong for doing this but please don't kid yourself that you are, or know HOUSE.A note to controller DJs out there. The tracks on this release CAN'T be mixed using sync (unless you warp them and re-record them in a DAW). Either learn how to mix without sync or stop calling yourself a DJ. DJs mix, programmers sequence. Can't mix without sync? You are a programmer.
Ok tune nothing really that mad about this release, most moodymann release are good, i agree that this is average at best and certainly doesn't deserve that level of price
Your entitled to your opinion. I'll be more diplomatic than some- every reason you stated for disliking it is most other peoples reason for liking it. Its raw sample based house music, but its the sum of its parts that matter, show me an intelligent floor that clears when this drops & I'll count your opinion as a valid one... This is a very special record.
if you dont like that record i think that you have to back to school and learn what good music is what a joke!!!
I am hcv men
Mf please....
dry your eyes mate
clown town
what a clown... brutally off base.Moody fuck your girl?
that cobbled together aesthetic is what makes him so great, get back to your EDM for your clean music fix
i don't think you quite get KDj, the samples just work, yesterdays is probably his best ever tune, this record is a masterpiece, easily on of the best in my collection, its raw exciting house music and there aint much like it
totally disagree..
I bought this & I thought the sound was pretty poor
Own both, cannot discern any significant difference in sound quality between the two. They are certainly not Youtube rips.
It sounds amazing. Have club proof of people going crazy on the record.
