The Belgian trio Hooverphonic haphazardly tinkers around with ambient pop on its debut album, A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular. Overall, it's a decent derivation of post-grunge and a healthy sampling of rising trip-hop and ambient electronica during the mid-'90s, so perhaps it's all right for the album itself to experience floppy production. Lead singer Liesje Sadonius is sultry while defining Hooverphonic's signature shoegazer-like vocalics, with almost impressive electronic support from guitarists Alex Callier and Raymond Geerts and keyboardist Frank Duchêne.

A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular is the debut studio album by the Belgian band Hooverphonic. 2 Wicky", "Wardrope", "Barabas" and "Inhaler" were released as singles from the album. A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular is the band's only album with original lead singer Liesje Sadonius.

The album kicks off with "Inhaler", probably also the best song on it. Mellow beats, subtle guitar playing and excellent vocals are tied together with various electronically generated sounds to yield a warm, fuzzy song. The next song, "2 Wicky", is built on top of a sample from Burt Bacharach’s "Walk On By" (performed by Ike Hayes, who also performed the sample on which Portishead’s "Gory Box" is based)

A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular is the first album by the Belgian band Hooverphonic when the band was only known as Hoover. It was the only album with singer Liesje Sadonius. The song "2 Wicky" was featured in the movies Stealing Beauty by Italian director Bernardo Bertolucci, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and Permanent Midnight. It is based on a loop from Isaac Hayes' cover of the Burt Bacharach and Hal David penned "Walk On B. The singles released from this album are "2 Wicky", "Wardrope", "Barabas" and "Inhaler"
