Twas the Night Before Christmas (1977 TV special). Twas the Night Before Christmas is a Christmas television special loosely inspired by the 1823 poem "A Visit from St. Nicholas" by Clement Clarke Moore. It helped jump start the careers of several young performers including Paul Lynde, Alice Ghostley, Eartha Kitt, Robert Clary, Carol Lawrence, Ronny Graham, performer/writer Mel Brooks (as Melvin Brooks), and lyricist Sheldon Harnick. Not for Publication is a 1984 screwball comedy film directed by Paul Bartel and starring Nancy Allen.

Ghostley won the hearts of gay fans with her portayals of Esmerelda, the ditzsy witch of Bewitched (’69-’72), and Bernice Clifton, the stroke-addled senior befriended by the ladies of Designing Women (’87-’93). Ghostley was a pioneer of early television, appearing in a 1957 musical version of Cinderella, in which Ghostley and Kaye Ballard played ugly step-sisters to Julie Andrews’ title character  . I adored Alice Ghostley. I have friends who still love to break into Bernice Clifton’s trademark Designing Women song Black Man, Black Man. (Season Six audio here.

With Richard Basehart, Claude Rains, John Abbott, Helen Gallagher. A musical version of "Lost Horizon". With Barry Nelson and Alice Ghostley in the cast it really sounds intriguing (I presume Nelson was playing the brother role - the one that John Howard played in the original movie). What also makes this seem curious is that there would later be a full movie version of LOST HORIZON with music, but it was a flop.

Alice Margaret Ghostley (August 14, 1923 – September 21, 2007) was an American actress and singer. She was best known for her roles as the bungling insecure Esmeralda (1969–70; 1972) on Bewitched, as Cousin Alice (1970–71) on Mayberry . and as Bernice Clifton (1986–93) on Designing Women, for which she received an Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 1992  . She also performed in several musical comedies, including Shangri-La (1956) Television.
