Formed in 1968, the trio spent five years touring extensively throughout the mid-west without much success.

Stray Dog were a blues-based hard rock band formed in Texas in the early 1970s. They recorded three albums before disbanding around 1976.

Stray Dog was Hal Crook's sixth album as a leader. It was recorded live at Club AS220 in Providence, Rhode Island, where Crook's band held a recurring Tuesday night gig for several years. The band originally formed in Texas under the name "Aphrodite". They moved to Denver, Colorado, where they became very popular.
