Some critics simply hate Western Holiday, claiming it’s a poorly produced muddy mess. Others praise it as one of the most listenable albums of the year. While I tend to be in the second camp, I can understand why some listeners might scratch their heads wondering just what is going on. The main reason for this is that Western Holiday defies easy categorization.
12 Songs, 42 Minutes. Released: Jun 10, 2014. More By Karen Haglof.
That album was the soundtrack to my trip through Georgia and now, she’s back with some deadly great collaborators – Steve Almaas on bass/guitar and . Roth on drums and recorded (again) at Eric Roscoe Ambel’s Cowboy Techinical Services Recording Rig in Brooklyn with Perseverance And Grace. Popdose is pleased to present to you the title track, which is twangy, tasty and sly – melodic as all get-out and just good old fun, while being meaningful.
Karen Haglof Western Holiday self-released. Written by: Dave Cantrell. The city/desert divide/mesh is evident straight off on former Band of Susans guitarist Karen Haglof’s new debut solo album as the opening title track blossoms from the bluesy urban shadows into the wide-open sun-baked vistas in the first couple of bars, the NYC-via-Minneapolis singer giving tribute to guides she’s ridden with in recent years out. west while simultaneously revisiting her horse-riding childhood with her father.
Karen Haglof Band - Double Cut (Live).
Here’s that album – one time Band Of Susans guitarist, Karen Haglof (who has been an oncologist in the intervening years) steps forward with this, her debut solo album, Western Holiday. The three piece unit that recorded this fine album is Dr. Haglof handling all guitars; Mr. Almaas on bass and slide guitars and Mr. Charlie Roth laying down tight drums and piano. The sonic quality of this album is top-notch – kudos to everyone because this record lives and breathes from the moment the first notes kick in on the title track
